Halloween is right around the corner! While it’s undoubtedly an exciting time, the holiday can, unfortunately, get frightfully expensive. If you’re on a tight budget, here are some tips to help you save money during Halloween.
1. Do a costume swap: If you need a new costume for your little one, check if the other parents in your neighborhood are interested in doing a Halloween costume swap. You can keep it simple and just invite two or three families to be part of the swap, or invite the whole neighborhood and make it a fun activity.
2. Or, shop early for a costume: If your child wants a specific costume, it’s wise to start shopping early for the best deals. Popular costumes usually sell out pretty soon, and the ones that don’t may have a premium price tag. If your child is older and wants an expensive costume, it’s perfectly fine to ask them to cover a part of the expenses.
3. Go the DIY way with decorations: Halloween decorations are not cheap, which is why the best way to save money on them is by making your own spooky tinsel and trinkets. If you prefer purchasing store-bought decorations, the dollar store is your best bet. No matter what, avoid purchasing decorations from department stores and specialty boutiques since they can get really pricey.
4. Buy affordable candy: There’s no reason for you to purchase the best chocolates and candy to pass on to Trick or Treaters on Halloween. Instead, create a budget that seems reasonable to you and stick to it.
5. Use coupons on your purchases: Whether it’s for decorations, candy, or costumes, it’s likely that you will need to visit a few different stores to complete your Halloween shopping. Given this, it’s a good idea to go through your coupon binder (if you have one) or a Sunday newspaper/magazine to find coupons that you can use to save some money on your purchases.
